Congratulations to Linh & Bo-Ya on receiving the CONVR 2026 Best Paper Award

We are delighted to announce that the ConAPI Laboratory group has received the Best Paper Award at the 26th International Conference on Construction Applications of Virtual Reality (CONVR 2026) held at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

CONVR is one of the leading international conferences dedicated to the advancement of digital technologies in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. The conference has brought together researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders to share the latest developments in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), Building Information Modeling (BIM), digital twins, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other emerging technologies focused on transforming the built environment.

The winning paper, “Worker Monitoring Using Low-Frequency Time-Lapse Imagery and 2D Drawings,” overhauls traditional construction worker tracking by proving that continuous monitoring does not require continuous video. The proposed framework combines low-frequency time-lapse imagery with 2D construction drawings to detect small workers, estimate their persistence, and quantify working duration within designated site areas. By replacing video with sparse image capture, the method reduces storage requirements by more than 98% while maintaining meaningful workforce analytics. This innovative approach offers a scalable, cost-effective solution for long-term construction site monitoring, addressing a key practical barrier to deploying computer vision in the field.
